New York Governor to Announce Gay Marriage Bill This Thursday

The story is here.

It's worth mentioning that Spitzer introduced a similar bill which did not pass. It's also possibly worth mentioning that Gov. Patterson has already directed NY State agencies to recognize unions which were performed by other states.

Maybe the Gossip Girl state couldn't take all the ribbing about being "behind" Iowa in a movement?

  1. I can't for the new Iowa tourism ads: "We're cooler than LA and NYC combined!"

  2. Well, Personal Failure, that would be quite the ad, though I don't think Iowa is known for stereotypical pompocity.

Also, your slogan states, "We're cooler than Louisiana and NYC." If you want to indicate "Los Angeles," you need to write it "L.A." Just a grammatical note. :)

  3. Governor Paterson admits that his proposal doesn't stand a chance of passing through the New York legislature, since they still represent the people of New York. I take this as a form of grandstanding, getting attention by falling in step with the popular cause du jour. And in a sense, he is trying to "shame" New Yorkers into neutering marriage. The shame is on him.

  4. I find it interesting that the governor of New York was NOT elected governor. He was the Lieutenant Governor who got "promoted" when Spitzer resigned.

  5. The Spitzer/Patterson ticket did win by a landslide, though. Having never voted in a New York State election, however, I don't know if one has the theoretical option to vote for the lieutenant governor separately. I guess not?
